The Joint Monitoring Task Force (JMTF) of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) at the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos carried out raids on the Joint Users Hydrant Installation (JUHI) canal and the area around the access road bridge where it apprehended suspected touts.

The spokesperson for FAAN, Mrs Obiageli Orah disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on Saturday.

She said the raids were conducted on January 12.

She said miscreants had begun to build shanties close to the Nahco Bridge on the access road to the airport.

“It is lamentable to note the gradual transformation of the JUHI canal into a potential hideout for criminals.

“The raid has brought about the dismantling of shanties by the JMTF and subsequent arrest of five miscreants,” said.

Orah said the suspects had been handed over to the Aviation Security Crime Investigation and Intelligence Unit (ASCIIU) for further interrogation and necessary action.

She warned that any encroachment into the airport environment “shall not be tolerated” and advised anyone who has no business at the airport to “please stay away” adding that FAAN “shall deal with anyone caught carrying out any act of vandalism or touting at the airports.”
