The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has won the Lateef Lawal Award for Airports Manager of the Year at the just concluded 25th annual conference of the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC) held in Lagos.
The award was instituted by the League in memory of its founding member and first chairman, Lawal, who died on November 11, 2020 at 67.
Receiving the award on behalf of the managing director and chief executive officer of FAAN, Capt. Rabiu Yadudu, the agency’s director of airport operations, Capt. Mukhar Muye expressed gratitude on behalf of FAAN saying the award meant a lot especially coming from the media practitioners.
He agreed that it was not yet Uhuru but that FAAN under the current management had been striving for perfection to change the narrative of the old.
Muye said the agency had improved the passenger facilitation process, as well as infrastructure of the old terminal while simultaneously trying to ensure the two new international terminals come on stream to give passengers an amazing new experience.
He also said the country’s international airports will be a nexus of activities as government had declared the four international gateways special economic zones (SPEZ), stressing that “it comes with huge benefits and responsibilities.”
Earlier, the League had stated that FAAN, which is a service provider saddled with the statutory function of maintaining commercial airports in had fulfilled its mandate, especially with the designation of four international airports as special economic zones SPEZ.
It said it was for the agency’s “untiring effort at providing leadership in airport management even in the face of the global pandemic” that it won the maiden edition of the Lateef Lawal Award.
