The managing director and chief executive of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, has engaged global aviation stakeholders on key issues, including balancing aviation growth with sustainability, leveraging AI to enhance airport operations and training and strengthening implementation support for resource-constrained states.
Spokesperson for FAAN, Mrs Obiageli Orah, said in a statement that the talks were held at the 2025 ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) held in Abu Dhabi, UAE under the theme ‘The next flight: Innovating for a sustainable tomorrow.’
“We are particularly interested in exploring the role of AI in revolutionising both airport operations and training and how FAAN can effectively integrate these technologies to enhance efficiency and sustainability at our airports.
“FAAN’s participation in the ICAO GISS underscores its commitment to remaining at the forefront of aviation best practices and delivering world-class airport services.
“The knowledge and insights gained from this symposium will be instrumental in shaping FAAN’s future strategies and initiatives,” Kuku is quoted to have said.
Orah also said the Nigerian delegation attended sessions on transforming digital learning in aviation training and exploring evolving strategies for a more sustainable aviation future.
The statement further Kuku said signed the FAAN-ICAO Trainair Plus Manual and received the agency’s membership plaque.
“This achievement marks a significant advancement in FAAN’s commitment to excellence in aviation training and support,” it stated.
The GISS provides an invaluable opportunity for FAAN to connect with global leaders and gain insights into the latest advancements and challenges in the aviation sector.
Kuku was accompanied on the trip by the director of human resources and administration at FAAN, Dr Emiola Luqman, acting general manager of training, Mrs. Toyin Akinlade and the director of airport operations, Capt Abdullahi Mahmood.
