The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has collapsed all the make shift tents at the Port Harcourt International Airport (PHIA), Omagwa following the commissioning and movement of international operations to the new international terminal at the airport.
It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari, had in October 2018, inaugurated the new terminal, saying it had become necessary for the government to take decisive action to ensure the nation’s airport terminals meet minimum international standards for air travellers.
FAAN’s spokeswoman, Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu, said in a statement that with the development, all domestic arrivals “have now been moved to the old international terminal.”
“Also, the former local departure lounge will henceforth serve as local arrival hall, while the erstwhile international departure lounge has now been converted to local departure lounge,” she added.
It would be recalled that last week, three foreign airlines -Air France, Lufthansa and Cronos commenced operations into the airport.
Yakubu said the terminal became fully operational when movement of agencies and installation of technical facilities were concluded.
Cronos Airlines arrived from Accra, Ghana followed by Lufthansa from Frankfurt and Air France from Paris.
Yakubu said, the terminal, measuring 27, 000 square metres, has the capacity to process five million passengers annually.
