The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) conducted a simulation exercise today at the airside of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja to ascertain the state of its personnel and equipment in aircraft emergency situations.
FAAN’s managing director, Mr. Saleh Dunoma said the exercise was aimed at demonstrating the authority’s readiness to attend to aircraft emergencies of any kind should the need arise.
Dunoma, who was represented at the event by FAAN’s director of airport operations, Capt. Rabiu Yadudu said the exercise was meant to confirm that FAAN “has the right equipment, manpower and strategy to perform its statutory duties.”
He added that the exercise was also necessary in ensuring the certification of the airport and assured airport users and the general public that it would continue to deliver on its core mandate of ensuring safety and security at the nation’s airports.
The event was attended by the deputy general manager, aerodrome rescue and fire fighting services (ARFFS), Victor Akinlabi Akinselure, airport manager, NAIA, Mahmud Sani, general manager safety, Elifue Agbi and director of aerodrome and airspace standards at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Odunowo Mohammed.
Some of the agencies involved in the exercise were NCAA, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Federal Road Safety Corps, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Port Health Services and Nigeria Air Force.
