The former governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose released from Ikoyi Prison yesterday after meeting his bail conditions.
His counsel, Mr. Mike Ozekhome said his client was released in the evening.
“Yes he has been released. He has perfected his bail conditions and was released this evening. I was with him and he was in a very high spirit, vowing to fight till this clueless administration is voted out of power,” Mr. Ozekhome added.
Similarly, Fayose’s spokesperson, Mr. Lere Olayinka, twitted: “Fayose just regained his freedom. We will meet @officialEFCC at the court from November 19. Thank you Nigerians.”
For his part, Fayose thanked Nigerians for their solidarity and support assuring that he would not let the people down.
The former governor, who stated this in a statement issued by his chief press secretary Mr. Idowu Adelusi, said his present travail is the price he has to pay as a leader.
He said he remained unshakable adding that he was fully ready to face the trial and would not absent himself from court sitting.
It would be recalled that Justice Mojisola Olato of the Federal High Court in Lagos had on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, granted Fayose bail in the sum of N50 million with one surety who must own a landed property in Lagos.
In addition, she said the surety must possess three years tax clearance and must also secure a bond of N50 million from a reputable bank which will be forfeited in if the accused jumps bail.
For his part, Fayose was ordered to swear to an affidavit not to tamper with the witnesses.
He was also directed to deposit his international passport with the chief registrar of the court while the case was adjourned to November 19, 2018.
It would also be recalled that Fayose is tried for alleged N30.8 billion fraud.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had arraigned him alongside his company, Spotless Investment Ltd at the Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday on 11-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering and other related financial crimes.
