The minister of works and housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola has said that the federal government had concluded plans to re-introduce toll gates on federal highways in the country.
Briefing journalists at the end of the weekly federal executive council meeting held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Wednesday, Fashola said there was no law against tolling in the country.
He said the government was working on modalities for reintroducing the toll plazas, 18 years after they were dismantled.
He said one of the modalities was acquiring more land that will provide up to 10-lane toll plazas.
Fashola further said the designs for the toll gates had already been made adding that materials to be used for the toll gates had been factored into the design.
Besides, he said the design includes elimination of cash payments at the toll plazas.
Thereafter, the minister said the FEC had approved additional N15.765 billion for the Suleja-Minna-Lambata road and Ibadan-Lagere-Ilesa bypass.
He explained that the contracts for the roads were upward reviews from initially approved rates.
On the 101 kilometer Suleja-Minna-Lambata road, he said the council approved an additional N12.6 billion and N3.165 billion additional for the Ibadan-Lagere-Ilesa bypass.
