Confirmed case not new importation – Ehanire
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed a second case of Covid-19 in the country
The agency made the confirmation in a situation report released by on Monday.
It said the case was not imported like the previous one, confirmed in one of the contacts traced to the first index case, an Italian businessman, whose case was confirmed on March 27.
Later in a statement, the minister of health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire said in a statement explained that the person who tested positive for the virus on Sunday, March 8, was an Ogun State contact of the index case, and that he had no significant symptom.
“This brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nigeria to two. The newly confirmed case in Nigeria is not a new importation, but a contact of the index case, who has since been in isolation and is under clinical follow up. The new case presently does not have any clinical symptoms, but he is comfortable and in care at Infectious Disease Hospital, Lagos.
“We have diligently and conscientiously pursued contact tracing and monitoring of people who met with the index Italian patient,” he said.
