Appoints Matthew Seiyefa as replacement for Lawal Daura
The acting president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has said that the invasion of the national assembly by hooded operatives from the department off state services (DSS) early Tuesday morning was not authorised by the presidency.
Speaking through his media aide, Mr. Laolu Akande, the acting president assured that all persons within the law enforcement apparatus who participated in “this travesty will be identified and subjected to appropriate disciplinary action.”
Osinbajo described the action of the SSS personnel as a “gross violation of constitutional order, rule of law and all acceptable notions of law and order.”
“The unlawful act which was done without the knowledge of the presidency is condemnable and completely unacceptable,” he said.
Earlier, the acting president had sacked the director general of the DSS, Mr. Lawal Daura in connection with the siege to the national assembly complex.
Akande, disclosed Daura’s sacking on his Twitter handle, @akandeoj.
“Ag P Yemi Osinbajo has directed the termination of the appointment of the DG of the DSS, Mr. Lawal Musa Daura” he wrote.
Osinbajo had, while terminating Daura’s appointment, asked him to hand over to the most senior official in the agency.
Later, the acting president has appointed Matthew Seiyefa as the acting director of the service.
The announcement was tweeted on via the verified Twitter handle of Presidency Nigeria @NGRPresident.
Following the appointment, the Bayelsa State-born DSS boss went to the Presidential Villa where he had a brief meeting with Osinbajo.
Seiyefa who has some 34 years of experience had served in different capacities, including the State Director in Osun, Akwa Ibom, and Lagos.
He also served as the director of Institute of Security Studies, Abuja.
Before his new appointment, Seiyefa was the assistant director general of the service.
