The Finance and Business Online Publishers (FiBOP) has expressed the need for a transformation to harness digital innovation to propel Nigeria’s financial landscape.
The president of the association, Mr Charles Onwuatogwu, made the plea in his welcome address to the participants at FiBOP 2024 capacity building workshop held yesterday in Lagos under the theme ‘Digital Innovation: Deepening infrastructure for efficient financial ecosystem.’
He said a greater collaboration between the ministry of communications and digital economy and banks and other relevant government agencies would ensure improved digital infrastructure which would in turn lower cost and improve transaction efficiency in the banking sector
He explained that the workshop was designed to equip participants with the skill set and knowledge required to thrive in this rapidly evolving ecosystem.
Furthermore, Onwuatogwu said the capacity building workshop was meant to accurately and comprehensively report on financial and business issues particularly as it relates to innovations in the digital economy, foster collaboration and promote networking among publishers, industry experts, and policymakers, as well as encourage data-driven journalism and fact-based analysis that would deepen “our infrastructure for greater effectiveness in cyber security and data protection, financial inclusion and accessibility.”
He added: “We gather to harness the transformative power of digital innovation for fostering a more interconnected, resilient, and vibrant financial landscape.
“As we navigate the complexities of the 21st century, it is now evident that digital innovation is no longer a luxury, but a necessity.
“The finance and business sectors are at the forefront of this revolution, and as publishers, we play a vital role in shaping the narrative and promoting transparency.
“Our dedication to excellence and commitment to informing and educating the public have far-reaching implications, influencing investment decisions, policy reforms, and economic growth.”
He encouraged the attendees to engage, question, and share expertise in order to chart a course for a more efficient, transparent, and sustainable financial ecosystem.
FiBOP is registered association of online publishers with a clear mandate to build capacity of its membership impactful contribution to the growth and development of the Nigerian and African economy as well as equipping the generation next with the knowledge and skill set to understand and navigate the socio-economic landscape in Nigeria and beyond.
