The Police on Tuesday arraigned the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2018 governorship election in Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, at the Mpape Magistrate’s Court, Abuja on a fresh five-count charge bordering on forgery.
It would be recalled that Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja had on Friday, May 3, granted the senator the permission to travel to the US for medical check-up.
The trip was slated for today, Tuesday, May 7.
He had also ordered him to honour a fresh police invitation on Monday May 6 before travelling the next day (today).
However, Adeleke was detained by the police at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, when he honoured the invitation.
In the new charge, the police accused the lawmaker of forging a letter of attestation and result from Mustlim Grammar School, Ede Osun State, which he allegedly submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before he contested the governorship election in Osun State on the platform of the PDP.
He pleaded innocent of the charge following which the magistrate, Muhammed Suberu granted him bail in the sum of N2 million with one surety, who must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.
The Magistrate also granted the lawmaker permission to travel abroad to attend to his health as earlier granted by a Federal High Court in Abuja and a High Court of Osun State in Ikirun.
