Fubara swears in 23 LG caretaker committee chairmen

The governor of Rivers State, Mr Siminalayi Fubara on Wednesday swore in new caretaker chairman for the state’s 23 local government areas.

The ceremony took place at the government house in Port Harcourt under a tight security.

Recall that the governor had in a broadcast yesterday directed the former council bosses to hand over to the administrative heads of their respective councils.

The directive followed the expiration of the three-year tenure of the elected council chairmen and councillors on Monday, June 17.

The chairmen were sworn in during the administration of the current minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former governor of the state, Mr Nyesom Wike.

“As we move forward in making sure that the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is upheld, and that law and order is maintained as we continue to strive to provide leadership and direction for our people, I hereby direct heads of local government administration (HLGAS) to continue to provide leadership in their respective local government areas,” he said.

The swearing in came a day after the governor sent the list of the nominees to the state house of assembly.

Those who took the oath of office are:

3. Ahoada West LGA – Mr. Daddy John Green

4. Akuku Toru LGG – Otonye Briggs

5. Andoni LGA – Reginald Ekaan

6. Asari Toru LGA – Orolosoma Amachree

7. Bonny LGA – Alabota Anengi Barasua

8. Degema LGA – Anthony Soberekon

9. Eleme LGA – Brain Gokpa

10. Emouha LGA – David Omereji

11. Etche LGA – John Otamiri
