FUTA expels six students for bullying

The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Ondo State, have expelled six students for bullying and beating up a female student identified as Boluwatife Adekunle.

The expelled students, according to the spokesman for the university, Mr. Adegbenro Adebanjo on Tuesday are Popoola Olaniyi, 300L; Oluwadare Tobiloba, 200l;  Nandi Jessica, 200L;  Ajuwon Emmanuella, 100L;  Emmanuel Taiwo100L and Alao Cecilia 100L.

The attack took place on November 16 in a private residence outside the university campus.

In a video that went viral, the suspended students stormed the victim’s residence and attacked her with dangerous weapons and stripped her half naked and also recorded the incidents with phones.

It was gathered that the victim was beaten for allegedly calling her attackers prostitutes.

Adegbenro said the expulsion was the result of the disciplinary panel set up by the management of the institution concerning the matter.

He said the committee found the expelled students culpable of gross misconduct and breach of the university’s matriculation oath.

He said further said their expulsion was in compliance with the position of page 48 of the 2019/2020 students’ handbook which prescribes expulsion from the university for students who engage in physical assault or battery of another student.
