Gagdi intensifies campaign for post of Reps Speaker

All Progressives’ Congress (APC) lawmaker representing Pankshin/Kanam/Kanke Federal Constituency of Plateau State in the house of representatives, Mr. Yusuf Gagdi, has met with the Labour Party (LP) members-elect as part of his campaign to be the speaker of the 10th national assembly.

Gagdi, who is the current chairman, house committee on navy, Gagdi met with the LP lawmakers yesterday in Abuja.

According to a statement from his media office, the meeting which had a majority of LP Reps-elect in attendance was a follow-up to interactions with leaders of the party at the national and state levels.

Gagdi, who has legislative experience from state to federal level, has been consulting widely across party lines to build a national governing coalition that reflects the composition of the House of Representatives.

The meeting held on Friday is one of the many consultative parleys being held by the lawmaker with members of the House elected across various political parties.

Engagements between Gagdi, stakeholders and members-elect are ongoing, as the nation awaits the decision of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the zoning of national assembly positions,” the statement said.

Before his election to the house of representatives, Gagdi, who is regarded as a grassroots mobiliser and a team player, served as the deputy speaker of Plateau State house of assembly.

During his first term, the lawmaker sponsored and co-sponsored over 20 bills; six of them, including the police reform bill, got presidential assent.
