The governor of Kano State, Mr. Abdullahi Ganduje, yesterday brushed aside a restraining order of the state High Court and went ahead to appoint four emirs for the newly created Gaya, Rano, Bichi and Karaye emirates.
The court had granted an order restraining Ganduje from taking any action to legitimise the bulkanisation of Kano into five emirates.
Justice Nasiru Saminu gave the interim injunction in a suit instituted by one Rabiu Sule Gwarzo restraining the governor from taking any action to legitimise the new emirates created in the state following the passage the Bill for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs into law by the Kano State House of Assembly on Wednesday, May 8.
But the governor, on Friday announced the appointment Aminu Ado Bayero, the first son of the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, as Emir of the newly created Bichi Emirate.
Until his appointment as emir, Bayero was the Wamban Kano, a position given to him by the present emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II after promoting the former Wambai, Alhaji Abbas Sanusi to the rank of Galadima following the death of late Galadima Kano Tijjani Hashim.
He named Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulkadir as Emir of Gaya, Alhaji Tafida Abubakar Ila as Emir of Rano and Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar II as Emir of Karaye.
The governor is expected to present letters of appointment and staff of office to the four new appointees today at their turban holding at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata.
