The German Mission in Nigeria has pledged to donate €5.5m (N2.2bn) to the Nigeria Humanitarian Fund to support the fight against COVID-19 in the country.
The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Nigeria (OCHAN) which disclosed this on Thursday on its twitter handle @OCHANigeria said the German Mission stated that the pledge “is for vulnerable people to have access to clean water, food and shelter amidst COVID-19 pandemic.”

The donation is coming Nigeria grapples with the attendant effects of economic shocks as a result of the coronavirus pandemic which has paralysed most activities in the country while infecting over 170 people resulting in two deaths.
The Federal Capital Territory, Lagos and Ogun States have been shut down for 14 days on the directive of the federal government to contain the spread of the deadly virus.
Various states have also reeled out a number of measures including the closure of land borders with their neighbours to curb the spread of the contagion.
