Governors ready to pay N70, 000 new national minimum wage

Fifteen state governors have so far expressed readiness to implement the new nation minimum wage of N70, 000.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu signed the new wage bill into law on July 29, 2024.

Since the president gave his assent to the legislation, some state governors said they were set to pay the new wage while others are still foot-dragging saying they are unable to do so due to limited financial funds.

At the last count, some 12 state governors expressed their readiness to implement the new N70, 000 minimum wage. They are:

  1. Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos State) who promised to pay N85, 000.
  2. Muhammad Yahaya (Gombe State)
  3. Dapo Abiodun (Ogun State)
  4. Ahmed Ododo (Kogi State)
  5. Charles Soludo (Anambra State)
  6. Dikko Radda  (Kastina State)
  7. Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi State)
  8. Muhammadu Yahaya (Gombe State)
  9. Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa State)
  10. Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo State)
  11. Abdullahi Sule (Nasarawa State)
  12. Seyi Makinde (Oyo State)
  13. Babagana Zulum (Borno State)
  14. Ademola Adeleke (Osun State)
  15. Hyacinth Alia (Benue State)

Beside Sanwo-Olu, the others are not ready to pay above N70, 000.
