A former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Mr. Reno Omokri, has accused the Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, sowing the seed of discord in the country and inciting Muslims against Christians by telling bandits that non-Muslim soldiers were the ones neutralising them.

Speaking on Wednesday on a PUNCH Online interview programme, The Roundtable, Omokri called on the Department of State Services (DSS) rein in Gumu, summon and question him for incitement.

“Sheikh Gumi should be answering questions with the DSS. “Sheikh Gumi should be summoned by the DSS to back up his claim that Christian soldiers are the ones killing Muslims,” he said.

He also stated that the Islamic cleric was facilitating banditry and not promoting peace as believed many.

Of late, Gumi has been seen in photos holding talks with notorious bandits in the forests of Zamfara, Niger and other states.

He had also advocated blanket amnesty for the bandits like was done for the militants in the Niger Delta region.

Besides, he said bandits had only killed a “few” people accidentally, adding that they killed for “revenge”.

Omokri described as “unthinkable” that Gumi was still allowed to move freely by the President Muhammed Buhari regime which had summoned a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Dr Obadiah Mailafia, over his comments on notorious terror group, Boko Haram.
