Gunmen suspected to be cultists shot and killed a fourth year student of engineering at the Rivers State University, Port Harcourt, on Thursday
It was leant that a group of suspected cultists had trailed the victim to a canteen near the faculty of management science about 9:20am, where one of the assailants brought out a gun and shot the unidentified student in the head.
It was gathered that the victim died on the spot thereby causing pandemonium in the school.
Vanguard quoted a source as saying that 200-level student from department of management was among the suspects who killed the engineering student.
According to the source, the killer students were on the move to pull out of the crime scene before the security operatives arrested the sophomore alleged to have been involved in the act.
The public relations officer of the state police command, Mr. Nnamdi Omoni, who confirmed the incident, said the police had begun a manhunt to arrest the other fleeing suspects.
“I can confirm the incident this morning at Rivers State University. One of the suspects who killed him has been arrested.
“The commissioner of police has launched a manhunt on the fleeing suspects. They will be fished out. There is calm in the school. We have restored normalcy,” Omoni said.
