A lecturer at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Prof Biodun Badmus, has debunked the notion that drilling many wells or boreholes in a specific area can cause an earthquake.

The university don spoke at the 10th anniversary celebration and inauguration of the Ogun State chapter of the Association of Water-Well Drilling Rig Owners and Practitioners, held yesterday in Abeokuta.

He said available data showed that drilling boreholes has nothing to do with earthquakes, adding that “there wouldn’t be tremor”.

However, he attributed failure to get water after digging boreholes to the dearth of adequate geographical surveys.
