The management of Ibom Air on Tuesday announced the resumption of scheduled operation across its network following yesterday’s cancellation of flights.
The action was occasioned by the nationwide strike called by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in protest against the federal government’s failure to agree on a commensurate minimum wage for workers.
Recall that the airlines had, yesterday, put all its flights on hold “due to the ongoing nationwide labour strike.”
It informed its customers that “we are unable to dispatch any of our scheduled flights to your various destinations.”
“The safety and well-being of our passengers and staff remain our highest priority.
“Consequently, our flight operations have been suspended until further notice. We regret the inconvenience we know this situation has caused and sincerely apologize.
“Please be assured that we are fully committed to resuming normal operations once the strike is called off,” the airline added.
However, after the two labour centres announced the suspension of the nationwide industrial action, the airline said in a statement that it was “pleased to announce that Ibom Air will resume flight operations today (Tuesday) to begin catching up on the backlog.”
However, the airlines said it would only operate flights from Lagos to Accra and back, Lagos to Abuja and back, Lagos to Uyo and back and Uyo to Abuja and back, today” while “our normal schedule will resume tomorrow.”
As flights to the other routes begin tomorrow, the airline pleaded with its clients to show some understanding that “there will be more passengers wanting to travel than we can immediately accommodate.”
“We kindly ask for your patience and cooperation as we work diligently to get you to your destinations as quickly and safely as possible.
“We will make changes to travel dates and times at no extra charge for those who require them.”
