INEC releases names of governorship candidates, running mates

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun piecemeal release of the names of governorship candidates and their running mates for the March 11, 2023 election gubernatorial and house of assembly elections.

As of yesterday, the commission posted the names of candidates, their deputies, and others for the houses of assembly of eight states.

The eight states are Ogun, Delta, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Kaduna, Jigawa, and Benue.

Ogun has 12 governorship candidates, the incumbent governor, Mr. Dapo Abiodun of the All Progress Congress (APC).

But missing on the list are the names of Ladi Adebutu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his running mate Adekunle Akinlabi.  Labour Party (LP) has no candidates.

Apart from the APC, other parties that have their candidates’ names published include the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Social Democratic Congress (SDP), New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), National Rescue Movement (NRM), People’s Redemption Party (PRP), African Democratic Party (ADP) and Allied People’s Movement (APM). .

From Delta State are the deputy senate president and governorship candidate of the APC, Mr. Ovie Omo-Agege; speaker, statehouse of assembly and PDP candidate, Mr. Sheriff Oborevwori; Mr. Great Ogboru of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), and Kenneth Gbagi of the Social Democratic Party.

In Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru of the APC; Ifeanyi Odii of the PDP;  Ben Odoh, APGA;  Edward Nkwegu, LP; Opoke Sunday, Young Progressives Party’s, NRM’s   Usulor Anthony, NRM; and Chukwuma Nwandugo, AA.

Abia State has 18 governorship candidates cleared by the electoral commission.

They include APC’s Ikechi Emenike, PDP’s Eleazar Ikonne, LP’s Alex Otti, YPP’s Enyinnaya Nwafor, and ADC’s Bishop Onuoha.
