The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Mr. Ibrahim Muhammad, on Monday deferred to Tuesday ruling in the appeals challenging the election of the governors of Sokoto, Imo, Benue, Bauchi, Plateau, Kano and Adamawa states.
The governors are Messrs Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Emeka Ihedioha (Peoples Democratic Party, Imo), Dr Samuel Ortom (PDP, Benue), Solomon Lalong (All Progressives Congress, Plateau), Abdullahi Ganduje (APC, Kano) and Umar Fintiri (PDP, Adamawa).
The court abruptly suspended its proceedings, midway after it commenced hearing on an appeal challenging Ganduje’s election.
Muhammad, who led the seven-man panel, announced that one of the panel members was feeling unwell.
Subsequently, he said the panel would rise briefly to return later.
An hour later, a top official of the court announced that proceeding had been rescheduled for the next day in view of the issue of the ailing judicial officer.
Although the official did not disclose the name of the affected judge, it was however gathered that it was Justice John Inyang Okoro.
Other members of the panel are justices Sylvester Ngwuta, Olukayode Ariwoola, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, Amiru Sanusi and Uwani Abba-Aji.
