Personnel of the Kano State Hisbah Board yesterday destroyed 3,873,000 bottles of different brands of beer and other alcoholic drinks.
The destruction exercise took place in Kalabawa village, along Kano-Danbatta Way, on the outskirts of the metropolis.
The spectacle was witnessed by both the officials of the state government Hisbah board.
While the state governor, Mr. Abdullahi Ganduje, was represented by member representing Albasu constituency in the state house of assembly, Mr. Sanusi Usman Batiwa, the state commissioner for religious affairs, Mr. Baba Impossible, was represented by his director, public affairs, Mr. Ali Bala Kofar Kudu.
The commander general of the board, Dr Harun Ibn- Sina, stated this during the destruction of the seized beer that the board was winning the fight against drug abuse, intoxicants and all other societal vices.
He said the state government approved the destruction of the intoxicant.
“This paved way for the board to secure a court order from Chief Magistrates’ Court, Kano, to damage all the seized beer in its custody.
“The sale, consumption and possession of alcoholic substances are prohibited in the state,” he added.
Also speaking after the destruction, the spokesman for the board, Mr. Lawan Ibrahim Fagge, said the destroyed products were intercepted at different locations in the state over the past six months.
