The senate, at its plenary on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of the spokesman for Buhari 2019 Campaign Organisation, Mr. Festus Keyamo as a member of board of the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC).

It also confirmed Ronke Sokefun as chairman and Garba Bello, Josef Okoloagu, Mustapha Mudashiru and Adewale Adeleke as members of the corporation’s board.

However, one other nominee, Mr. Garba Buba, was not confirmed because he did not show up for screening.

Keyamo’s confirmation was made after the senate considered and adopted the report of its committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions.

Rafiu Ibrahim (PDP-Kwara), who presented the report, said Keyamo and the other nominees were cleared by the Code of Conduct Bureau.

He also said that after screening, the nominees were discovered to be resourceful, diligent, articulate and competent besides having the knowledge to work in the positions for which they were nominated and also possessing the needed value in the operations of the board of the NDIC.

It would be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari had on May 8 written to the Senate seeking confirmation of the appointment of Keyamo and six others.

“In compliance with section 5 (4) of the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Act 2006, it is my pleasure to forward to the distinguished Senate the under listed nominees for confirmation as chairman and members of Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation. Their CVs are attached.

“It is my hope distinguished Senate will consider and confirm the nominees in the usual expeditious manner. Please accept Mr. Senate President, the assurances of my highest consideration,” said the president in his letter.
