The minister of aviation and aerospace development, My Festus Keyamo yesterday laid the foundation for the construction of a N62.8 billionGusau International Airport n Zamfara State.
Speaking during the flag off ceremony, the minister, according to his spokesman, Mr Tunde Moshood, said the project “is a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing the state’s infrastructure, boosting economic growth, and improving connectivity within Nigeria and beyond.”
He also said the airport project “is a testament to our commitment to developing the aviation sector and promoting regional growth.”
He added: “This airport will not only improve transportation links but also create job opportunities and stimulate economic activities in Zamfara State and its environs.”
In his remarks, the state governor, Mr Dauda Lawal expressed his gratitude to the federal government for the project.
Highlighting the airport’s potential to transform the state, Lawal said: “This airport is a vital component of our development agenda. It will facilitate trade, attract investment, and contribute significantly to the socio-economic advancement of our state.
“We are determined to see this project through to completion, and we appreciate the honourable minister’s dedication to this cause.”
Keyamo also undertook a tour of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria
He inspected the fire-fighting simulator, various aircraft simulation centers, the aircraft maintenance workshops, the new auditorium and former Zaria Hotel recently acquired by NCAT.
“The minister’s visit marks a significant step in fostering closer collaboration between the ministry of aviation and aerospace development and NCAT. It also highlights the government’s ongoing commitment to investing in and upgrading aviation training facilities to meet international standards,” Moshood said.
