The minister of aviation and aerospace development, Mr Festus Keyamo has sought the assistance of the Kano State government for the provision of a dedicated power line to the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) to enhance the airport’s power supply and improve the cooling system.
Spokesperson for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs Obiageli Orah, said in statement that the minister made the demand during a courtesy visit to the governor, Mr Abba Yusuf.
Keyamo who was received by the deputy governor, Mr Aminu Gwarzo, said the request was a “pressing need given recent concerns.”
He also pledged the ministry’s support to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and collaboration with the state government to ensure a successful 2024 pilgrimage to Mecca.
Responding, Gwarzo said the government would work diligently to ensure the request “is swiftly addressed.”
Keyamo was accompanied on the tour by the permanent secretary in the ministry, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, managing director of FAAN, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, and directors from both the ministry and FAAN.
During the visit, the minister together with the deputy governor, Meribole, Kuku and the directors undertook a facility tour of the airport.
