Osun discharges six
Lagos State on Wednesday discharged 14 patients after they tested negative for the coronavirus disease and also recorded the seventh death from the dreaded scourge.
The state governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu who disclosed this via his twitter handle said the patients comprising 14 male and two females were discharged after testing negative twice.
He also disclosed that one Briton, one Polish and one Chinese were among those discharged.
“I have more great news from our isolation facilities. 16 persons; 14 males and 2 females including three foreigners – one Briton, one Chinese and one Polish citizen have been discharged to join the society.
“As our frontline health workers record successes in the battle against #COVID19, we are duty-bound as citizens to break the chain of transmission of the infection by staying safe at home, practicing social distancing and adopting the highest possible personal hygiene.
“We will continue to do our best as the government to cushion the effect of this lockdown by re-energising our welfare package. Please keep faith with us as we work to win this battle together. Thank you for your continued perseverance and patience,” said the governor.
Sadly, the state also reported the seventh death from the virus.
The commissioner of health, Prof. Akin Abayomi who announced this said the dead was a 63-year-old male who had no history of travel or contact with any confirmed case.
The state has so far discharged 70 persons, while 140 persons are still under treatment in its various isolation centres.
Elsewhere in Osun State, Governor Gboyega Oyetola announced that six new patients were discharged today bringing the total number of recoveries in the state to 17.
Oyetola who took to his twitter handle said the discharged patients were among the Ivory Coast returnees in the state.
He said the six patients tested negative for coronavirus twice before they were discharged from the state Isolation Centre in consonance with the protocols of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
“Another good news from our Isolation Centre, as six more COVID-19 patients have tested negative twice, in line with NCDC protocol.
“The patients, who are among the 127 Ivory Coast returnees, have been discharged to join their families.
“This brings to 17, the number of cases that have tested negative twice and have been discharged after treatment in our state.
“The remaining two patients at our facility are responding to treatment and it is our hope they will recover soon and be released to reconnect with their families.
“Once again, I thank the people of Osun for your cooperation and sacrifice during this challenging period. I also appreciate all our health workers who have been working so hard to ensure we’re all safe. You’re our heroes and we can’t appreciate your sacrifices enough. God bless you all,” he wrote.
