The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed 49 new coronavirus disease cases yesterday bringing the total to 542.
‘‘Forty-nine new cases of #COVID19 have been reported; 23 in Lagos, 12 in FCT, 10 in Kano, 2 in Ogun, 1 in Oyo, 1 in Ekiti. As at 10:40 pm 18th April there are 542 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria. Discharged: 166. Deaths: 19. #TakeResponsibility,’’ said the NCDC in a tweet.
According to the agency, Lagos accounted for 23 of the new cases, followed by the FCT with12, Kano, 10; Ogun, two while Oyo and Ekiti recorded one case each.
Meanwhile, data released by the NCDC shows 19 states with the FCT making it a total of 20 locations nationwide have recorded cases of the COVID-19.
Lagos remains the epicentre of the scourge with a total of 306; FCT, 81 cases; Kano, 37; Osun, 20; Oyo, 16 cases; Edo, 15; Ogun, 12; Kwara and Katsina, nine each.
The others are Bauchi, Kaduna and Akwa Ibom, six each; Delta and Ekiti, four apiece; Ondo, three; Enugu, Rivers and Niger, two each; Benue and Anambra, one case each.
Also yesterday, the Osun State commissioner for health Dr. Rafiu Isamotu, announced the discharge of one COVID-19 patient after two negative tests for the virus in line with the NCDC guideline.
Similarly, Lagos State discharged four more COVID-19 patients, bringing to 94 the total number of successfully treated persons in the state.
The state governor and Incident Commander on COVID-19 Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said three of those discharged were males while one was female.
“The patients: two from the Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba, and two others from Onikan Isolation Centre, have fully recovered and tested negative twice consecutively to COVID-19,” he said.
Edo State also announced the discharge one coronavirus patient in the state, after the patient tested negative twice for the virus and was cleared to return home.
The state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, who disclosed this urged the people to “please, stay safe and stay at home, as we intensify efforts to check the spread of COVID-19 in our dear state.”
