The governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday floated a N2 billion relief fund to alleviate losses suffered by victims of yesterday’s explosion that rocked Ado Soba, Abule Ado in Amuwo Odofin local government area, of the state and caused collateral damage.
The governor who disclosed this when he and his deputy, Dr. Femi Hamzat visited the scene of the explosion also announced the donation of a N250 million as capital base for the relief fund on behalf of the state government.
The governor who took to his twitter handle also said: “I have instructed the Lagos State
Environmental Protection Agency to immediately release personal safety
materials to the people living around the area especially to first responders
and all safety workers at ground zero. We will continue to monitor the
situation. ‘We are working with NEMA, NNPC and other agencies to make life
easier for everyone affected in the tragic incident at Abule Ado which claimed
lives and caused extensive property damage. I offer my condolences to everyone
affected.’
It would be recalled that
the explosion which occurred yesterday led to the death of at least 17 people while
as many as 30 were rescued.
It was learnt that a total of 55 victims of explosion were treated at the Nigerian Navy Reference Hospital, Ojo, Western Naval Command (WNC).
Aside the fatal casualties, many people in their hundreds suddenly became displaced persons due to extensive damage caused by the explosion.
“The causes are yet to be determined, while security agents are investigating the cause of the explosion and recovery, rescue activities were carried out by the ministry of special duties, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), men of the Lagos State Fire Service crew, Federal Fire Service Department, Safety Commission, LABSCA and other first responders,” said LASEMA in a statement.
