The candidate of the Labour Party (LP) Mr. Victor Ogene won the Ogbaru house of representatives supplementary election held on Saturday, April 15.
He defeated the incumbent and third term representative of the constituency, Mr. Chukwuma Onyema of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Announcing the results at Atani, headquarters of Ogbaru local government area, the returning officer, Prof Kingsley Ubaorji of Nnamdi Azikiwe University said Ogene polled a total of 10,851 votes, followed by Onyema, who garnered 10,619 votes.
The returning officer also announced that Mr. Arinze Awogu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) came third with 10,155 votes.
Other candidates scored as follows: Mrs. Nkechi Ismade of the All Progressives Congress (APC), 303 votes; Mr. Nwachukwu Victor of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), 39 votes, and Mr. Obunne Celestine of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Earlier, the PDP had led with over 1,000 votes in the supplementary election, while APGA came second, followed by LP.
However, when the result was summed up with the previous February 25 poll, the LP candidate came first followed by the PDP and APGA candidates as first and second runners-up.
