A Boeing 737-500 aircraft marked 5N-BQM and operated by Med-View Airline has been involved in a serious incident at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.
It was gathered that the aircraft had a serious incident mid-air which prompted the crew to deploy oxygen masks and embark on emergency descent procedure.
Spokesman for the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB), Mr. Tunji Oketunbi, said in a statement today that the incident occurred yesterday around 3:07pm.
He said the aircraft which operated from Abuja to Lagos had 27 passengers and six crew members on board.
He said there was no fatality and appealed to the general public and the media to “respect the privacy of the people involved and not assume the cause of the accident until formal report is released.”
Oketunbi stated that “our team of safety investigators has commenced investigation.”
“As the investigating agency, AIB needs and hereby solicits for your assistance.
“We want the public to know that we would be amenable to receiving any video clip, relevant evidence, or information any members of the public may have of the accident; that can assist us with this investigation,” he added.
It would be recalled that also yesterday, Air Peace operated Boeing 737-300 aircraft marked 5N-BQO was involved in an accident at the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.
The Port Harcourt-Lagos flight with 133 passengers and six crew members on board was on approach to airport.
AIB said the aircraft’s nose wheel collapsed on landing on the runway (18R) and the nose wheel gear tire sheared off.
There was, however, a minor injury but no fatality.
