The representative of Kogi West Senatorial District, Mr. Dino Melaye on Monday fulfilled the bail condition which a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, Abuja, granted him on health grounds on Friday.
In his ruling, Yusuf Halilu, the judge, said Melaye should be allowed to attend to his health as he could not be arraigned on a stretcher or on his hospital bed.
As part of the bail condition, Melaye was expected to provide three sureties, two of whom must show evidence of landed property in Abuja.
“The third, a clerk of the national assembly who must do a letter to the court that the applicant must be produced in court when he is required,” the judge held.
The judge, thereafter, adjourned the case to January 23, 2019, to rule on the substantive matter.
After fulfilling his bail conditions, Melaye filed a suit against the inspector-general of police (IGP), seeking that the police do not arrest him.
It would be recalled that more than 50 police officers had laid siege to his Abuja residence since Friday, December 28, 2018 to arrest him for alleged culpable homicide, an allegation he denied.
On January 4, 2019, the senator turned himself in but he had to be rushed to a hospital following asthmatic attack on his way to the office of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS).
On January 11, masked men on stormed the police hospital where the senator was receiving treatment and whisked him away to a health facility belonging to the Department of State Services (DSS).
