The comptroller of customs, Tin Can Command, Mr Dera Nnadi, has decorated 110 newly promoted officers of the command.
In the exercise, nine deputy comptrollers were promoted to the rank of comptrollers; 16 assistant comptrollers promoted to deputy comptrollers while 21 chief superintendents of customs were promoted to assistant comptrollers.
Addressing the officers, Nnadi advised them to work hard to justify their elevation as well as ensure efficient service delivery.
The comptroller described as “unprecedented” that over 67 comptrollers were promoted from the command.
“It is important that the management decided to compensate them this time around. You are not only lucky; you are privileged, having been found academically competent,” he said.
He added: “Your rank confers service in you and not power. Whichever office assigned to you should be seen as service and not as power.
“Our stakeholders deserve to be respected. You must optimize service delivery. Use your new rank to help the command to survive the revenue target to be assigned to the command. The only obligation is to mentor you and what you owe me back is service delivery.
“It is a statement of fact that the collaboration between us and stakeholders has helped in building the capacity of the officers to make us emerge as the command with the highest promotion.”
Nnadi urged those who did not benefit from the promotion to work harder.
