Former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, has said security crisis across the country has overstretched the nation’s security forces.
Abubakar stated this yesterday at the 30th convocation of the Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna, Niger State capital, where he was awarded an honorary doctorate degree.
He said Nigeria is facing what he described as “war without morality” and urged Nigerians to cooperate with the security agencies to chase out those spreading killings and other forms of insecurity in the land.
“We are facing a hard time, security-wise. The warfront is everywhere. This is a war without any morality, where the old and the young are slaughtered without any cause.
“Our security forces are overstretched. So, it is left to all of us to join hands in making sure we provide information, where possible, so that this situation will be addressed,” Abubakar said.
He expressed worry about the 2023 general election, warning politicians to stop using the youths to unleash violence on fellow citizens.
He also urged the youths not to allow themselves to be used as purveyors of violence and disharmony.
“As we go into politics, caution Nigerians and politicians. Please, wisely play the game. Avoid using our children and grandchildren for propaganda and …trying to make them do what we know is wrong.
“And for the youths, please, avoid being used as thugs and purveyors of disharmony and violence in the country,” Abubakar said.
The university also honoured the president, African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr. Akinwumi Adesina; the chairman, BUA Group of Companies, Mr. Abdulsamad Rabiu and the group managing director, Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), Mr. Mele Kyari with doctorate degrees.
Vice chancellor of the university, Prof. Abdullahi Bala, explained that the awardees deserved the honours because of their patriotism to the nation.
