The Nigerian Embassy in Germany has sacked a security guard, Mr. Martins Oni, who was found guilty of sexual abuse and other criminal activities.
It would be recalled that Oni was suspended last month following the allegation of a circulated material on social media that suggested the official was demanding favours in return for official services.
The footage on the social media showed Oni in a hotel room half-naked arguing with an unknown person who accused him of demanding sex from females who applied for passport renewals.
While Oni was serving the suspension, the Nigerian ambassador to Germany, Mr. Yusuf Tuggar ordered an investigation into the matter.
“We have a zero-tolerance policy towards abuse of office and especially of sexual misconduct. Our full resources are being deployed to investigate a very serious incident and any other abuses that this inquiry may reveal.
“The investigation is taking place with all the urgency and diligence that this very serious situation demands. When due process is complete, any guilty party can expect to face the full weight of the law. Our heartfelt sympathies are with any innocent victims of abuse,” said the embassy.
Giving an update on Tuesday, the Embassy, in a statement, said the probe committee found Oni guilty of the allegations.
“The Investigation Committee interviewed Mr. Oni and other witnesses as part of a thorough examination of these very serious charges.
“It concluded that Mr. Oni was culpable and in violation of all the relevant codes.
“As a result, Mr. Martins Adedeji Oni’s contract with the Embassy as a local staff has been terminated,” said the embassy in a statement.
The Embassy, while thanking the public for exposing the unethical former employee, stressed its zero-tolerance policy towards all abuses of office, and especially of sexual misconduct.
