Death has been announced of Mrs Shola Adekola, a columnist with the Nigerian Tribune newspaper.
Aged 61, Adekola who doubled as the assistant business and aviation editor for the paper died after a brief illness on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja in Lagos.
Untill her death, she wrote a weekly column, ‘Crucial moment’ for the paper.
Born to late Prof Morakinyo Omole and Mrs Funmilayo Omole, Adekola grew up on the University of Ibadan campus.
‘Madam Sholly’ as she was popularly called by her colleagues, graduated from the University of Ibadan in 1988 with BA in Classical Studies.
She is an alumnus of the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria where she underwent different professional courses ranging from aviation reporting for image makers, advance training in aviation for image makers and management course for image makers between 1993 and 2023.
In the course of her career, Adekola travelled across Europe, America, Middle East and Africa for conferences on aviation and tourism related issues.
Until her death, she was a member of the League of Airports and Aviation Correspondent (LAAC).
She joined the League in 1993 having been posted to the beat by the Kano State government-owned newspaper, The Triumph.
From that time till her passing, she had worked in different newspaper houses, including Hallmark, Daily Times, Reuters and the Nigerian Tribune where she served as proof reader, sub-editor, correspondent and eventually assistant business editor/aviation editor, Nigerian Tribune.
In different times, she served as the assistant secretary, secretary and vice chairman of LAAC.
