A survey conducted by Infotrak Research and Consulting has revealed that Nigerians are not in the least worried about the coronavirus pandemic which has affected 86,170,320 and killed 1,862,044 persons in 218 countries and territories around the world.
Instead, they are more concerned about insecurity, unemployment, poverty, corruption and high cost of living than.
According to the poll, only seven per cent of respondents expressed worry about COVD-19 than other issues in 2021.
It showed that 16 per cent of those surveyed placed insecurity and crime as their major worry in 2020, while 14 per cent indicated that it was unemployment.
About 13 per cent of the respondents said the high cost of living was their major worry in 2021, while 12 per cent expressed their concern about poverty.
About 10 per cent indicated that corruption was their major concern.
Disaggregating the data in terms of geopolitical zone, findings indicate that 25 per cent of persons living in the troubled northeast said their number one worry was insecurity, while in the southwest, only nine per cent of the respondents identified insecurity as their main concern.
Infotrak stated that the northeast respondents expressed the highest fear of a COVID-19 outbreak at 11 per cent and north-central, 2 per cent.
The poll further showed that 25 per cent of Nigerians believed the economy will get worse this year, while 18 per cent believed insecurity will worsen.
The north-central had the highest sense of optimism in 2021 at 26 per cent and the southeast, 8 eight per cent.
On the whole, about 61 per cent of the respondents believed that 2021 would be a better year than 2020.
The researchers said the survey was conducted between December 27 and December 29, 2020, while 26 states across the six geopolitical zones were covered.
