The 27th annual conference of the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC) will have the director general of Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Prof Mansur Matazu, as its chairman.
Secretary to the conference committee, Mr. Albnus Chiedu, said in a statement that the event hold on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at Providence Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.
According to the release, Matazu was selected based on his wealth of experience and quality leadership he has displayed since he was appointed to head NiMet.
He said Matazu who was recently re-elected into the executive council of World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) “will bring his experience to bear as the chairman of the conference.
He recalled that that before the re-election, “Matazu has been a member of the Executive Council since his assumption of office as the director general of NiMet has been recognised for his commitment and dedication to science, meteorology and to humanity.
Besides, he said NiMet, “has in recent years, provided consistent weather information services to various sectors of Nigeria’s economy, including the aviation industry.”
Chiedu also announced that the director general of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Capt. Musa Nuhu would deliver the keynote address at the event adding that other key players in the aviation also confirmed their participation.
They include the managing director, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr. Kabir Mohammed; managing director, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Mr. Tayib Odunowo; director general, Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), Mr. Akin Olateru; rector of Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, Capt. Alkali Madibbo, president, Aviation Safety Round Table Initiative (ASRTI), Dr. Gabriel Olowo; managing director, and TopBrass Aviation, Capt. Roland Iyayi.
Others are the group managing director of Finchglow Travels and chairman, Association of Aviation Training Organisations (AATOs) in Nigeria, Mr. Bernard Bankole, minister of aviation, chairman, Air Peace Limited, Mr. Allen Onyema, and chairman, United Nigeria Airlines, Dr. Obiora Okonkwo, amongst others.
“The theme of this year’s conference is Nigeria’s aviation industry: Changing times, changing strategies. It was informed by the emerging changes in approach to aviation business as regards technology, airline management and operations, financing and other aspects of the aviation industry.
“The programme will feature presentations by speakers and a panel session to address issues bedeviling the sector in line with the theme.
“Over 250 aviation industry professionals, cutting across the aviation agencies, security agencies, international and domestic airlines operating in Nigeria, aviation support services, travel trade sellers and buyers in Nigeria’s aviation industry are expected to participate in this conference.
“There will be both physical and virtual participation in the conference to enable participation of stakeholders from across the world,” the statement added.
Chiedu also stated that individuals and organisations that have distinguished themselves in the industry on performance would be honoured at the conference.
