The chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Aviation, Mr. Nnolim Nnaji has condoled with the families of victims of Quorum Aviation helicopter accident which occurred in Lagos yesterday.
NewsGazette had earlier reported that the helicopter crashed on a building at 16A Salvation Road in Opebi area of Lagos killing all the three occupants.
In a press release issued in Abuja, Nnaji also sympathised with the management and staff of Quorum Aviation but
“We must also be thankful to God that we didn’t record any ground casualty.
“It was a great miracle that such crash could occur within a residential area in a city so populated like Lagos without any ground casualties,” he added.
The lawmaker urged the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) to do its utmost to unravel the cause of the accident.
He described as “regrettable” and “unfortunate” that the accident occurred “just a few minutes to the final destination which was the Murtala Mohammed Airport after flying several nautical miles all the way from Port Harcourt.”
Nnaji equally appealed to members of the public to always avoid crowding the site of aircraft accident for security reasons.
He said the rush to crash sites could impede proper accident investigation in the event that certain components that could aid investigation can be tampered with.
The lawmaker said he was shocked by the crowd that besieged the scene of the crash yesterday.
“There is an urgent need to enlighten the public on the consequences of crowding air crash scene due to the danger of explosion that may occur,” he added
