NSIB investigates UNA’s serious aircraft incident at Lagos Airport

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has begun an investigation into a serious incident involving an Embraer ERJ145 aircraft marked 5N-BWY and operated by United Nigeria Airlines, which occurred on September 8, 2023

Recall that the aircraft with 51 passengers and four crew members had, upon landing at the local wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, skidded off the runway.

All the passengers and their luggage were safely evacuated

NSIB, in a statement by its spokesman, Mr Tunji Oketunbi, solicited information from the general public “in form of pictures, video or recording evidences to assist in conducting a comprehensive investigation.”

“The NSIB will appreciate that the general public and press respect the privacy of the people involved and not assume the cause of the serious incident until formal report is released,” the statement added.

Oketunbi assured that the Bureau would release the preliminary report soon.

The NSIB is a multimodal investigation agency charged with the mandate to investigate transportation accidents and serious incidents in Nigeria with the aim of identifying the probable causes and proffer safety recommendations that can prevent reoccurrence.
