The founder of United Nigeria Airlines, Prof Obiora Okonkwo, visited Dame Irene Okwuosa Memorial Hospital where he donated N5 million to support the medical mission of Sir Emeka Okwuosa Foundation.
The hospital is a cardiology centre offering free heart surgery for both adults and children through a team of volunteer experts from the VOOM Foundation of USA.
The airline said in a statement that Okonkwo was accompanied on the visit by a former Nigerian footballer, Mr Kanu Nwankwo, popularly called Papilo.
The statement explained that Okonkwo’s invitation to Kanu to be in the entourage was meant to facilitate a partnership with the Sir Emeka Okwuosa Foundation, following Kanu’s impact and history with heart foundations.
Speaking during the visit, Okonkwo commended Okwuosa for his humanitarian service which according to him has benefitted many people in the country.
He also reaffirmed the airline’s commitment to providing future assistance and partnership.
Already, UNA provides flight services for the mission’s health workers as part of its (airline’s) corporate social responsibility (CSR) and core values of service.
Responding, Okwuosa thanked Okonkwo for his contribution to the medical mission’s success.
He highlighted the crucial role of the partnership with UNA, noting that its reliable flight schedules are vital for the foundation’s execution of its mission.
