The Ondo State House of Assembly yesterday confirmed the deputy governor, Mr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa as the acting governor.

The confirmation came after the house received a formal written memo from the governor, Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, notifying it that he was on leave and that his Aiyedatiwa, should act as governor.

The speaker of the house, Mr. Olamide Oladiji, said in a statement that Akeredolu had embarked on a 21-day overseas medical leave from June 7.

According to the letter, the leave will extend to July 7 due to public holidays on June 12 (Democracy Day) and Eid el Kabir on June 28-29.

“The Governor, who had directed his Deputy, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to act as the Governor while away, has assured of his resumption on the 6th of July, 2023,” the statement said.

Oladiji described the governor as a lover of peace and an apostle of the rule of law and wished him a speedy recovery and a joyful vacation.

Recall that the state chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) had earlier called on Akeredolu to hand over to Aiyedatiwa due to his (Akeredolu’s) ill-health.

It was learnt that a clique in the corridors was not comfortable with  Aiyedatiwa as acting governor and deployed every means, including blackmail, to keep him away.
