Mr Taiwo Lebi of a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State, yesterday ordered the remand in prison of a self-acclaimed pastor, Oluwasegun Victor, for allegedly impregnating a minor (name withheld).
The 31-year-old defendant was arrested by the operatives of the state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for allegedly committing the offence in Oba Ile Community in Akure North Local Government Area of the state.
Victor was later arraigned before the court on a one-count charge of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor.
At the court, the NSCDC prosecutor, Mr David Ebriku, said the offence contravenes Section 31(1) of the Child Rights Laws of Ondo State 2007 and was punishable under Section 31(2) of the same Laws.
The charge reads: “That you, Olusegun Victor, male, 31 years old, at about 1 pm on the 24th day of July 2024 at No 73 Owode, off Airport Road, Oba-Ile, Akure within Akure Magisterial district did commit a felony, to wit, unlawful sexual intercourse on a minor, (name withheld), 15 years, thereby committed an offence contrary to section 31(1) of the Child Rights’ Laws of Ondo State 2007 and punishable under section 31(2) of the same laws.”
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant to a correctional centre.
The defence counsel, Mr. Alex Olademehin, however asked the court for time to respond to the remand application.
In his ruling, Lebi ordered the defendant to be remanded at a correctional centre.
The court adjourned the case till September 19, 2024 for hearing of the bail application.
