The chairman of Air Peace, Mr Allen Onyema has rallied the support of airlines, airport authorities, security agencies, regulators, and private sector partners to work in concert to stop threats to aviation security.
He made the call in his goodwill message to participants in a symposium held in Lagos recently under the theme ‘Fundamentality of aviation security in achieving the safe-skies goal.’
While he acknowledged the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for organising the symposium as well as its persistent efforts in oversight and regulation, Onyema urged the agency and the attendees to “let this not be another talk shop” but a launch pad for concrete and collective action.
He said aviation security is not just a protocol but the industry’s “lifeblood” stressing that with global threats evolving at breakneck speed—from cyber attacks to insider threats and terrorism— Nigeria’s aviation architecture must be continuously strengthened.
“No one agency or operator can do it alone. “Airlines, airport authorities, security agencies, regulators, and private sector partners must work in concert. Let us share best practices, raise hard questions, and commit to actionable outcomes,” he said.
On the part of the airline, Onyema said “Air Peace has modeled this collaborative approach by investing heavily in cutting-edge security technology, continuous training and institutional partnerships.
However, he cautioned against an over-reliance on hardware and checklists.
“Security is also about mindset,” he said, emphasising that vigilance, intelligence-sharing, and uncompromising compliance must be cultural norms across the aviation ecosystem.
