Zenith Insurance has conducted evaluation of the damage done to the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri Airport and agreed to pay the claim in full.
The managing director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr. Saleh Dunoma disclosed this in Owerri during a visit to the airport which terminal building was gutted by fire on Monday, April 8.
Dunoma who expressed delight that there was no casualty in the incident also said FAAN “will do all within its powers to ensure that the airport is renovated as soon as possible, so as to ameliorate the inconveniences the incident may cause airport users.”
The managing director also disclosed that a committee had already been constituted to inquire into the remote cause of the incident.
He therefore advised the airport’s management to continue to engage the host communities and other stakeholders collaboratively in the interest of all.
In a statement by FAAN spokeswoman, Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu, the managing director on arrival at the airport went to the scene of the incident to see for himself the extent of damage caused by the fire.
He was joined by the Authority’s directors of engineering services, human resources and administration, commercial and business development, general managers, civil and building, safety as well as the airport manager and her team.
Dunoma, who used the opportunity to appreciate the incumbent governor of the state, Mr. Rochas Okorocha and the governor-elect, Mr. Emeka Ihedioha for their support and timely intervention during the incident, also thanked the Air Force commandant, the divisional police officer, Owerri Airport Command and their team for the role they played during the incident.
The visit, according to Yakubu, was the second from the management of the Authority as the director of engineering services, Mr. Salisu Daura, had earlier led a team of management staff to the airport on April 10, 2019.
