Parties’ current standing in the ninth national assembly

As the ninth national assembly comes on stream in June, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has so far got 64 senators-elect; Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has 41 while one of the newly-registered parties, the Young Progressives Party (YPP) has one senator-elect.

Fifteen of the newly elected senators are former state governors.

The Independent National Commission (INEC) has declared 106 senators-elect so far. There are three outstanding seats from Plateau, Kogi and Imo states.

The senate has 109 members and for a party to have the two-thirds majority in the upper chamber of the national assembly, it must produce 73 senators.
