The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the senate president, Dr. Bukola Saraki, have described the death of the general secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Dr. Musa Asake, as “sad”, “shocking” and “painful”.
The PDP said in a statement signed by its national publicity secretary, Mr. Kola Ologbodiyan, that Asake’s death “is big blow to humanity.”
“We note that the death of Rev. Asake, who was known for his devotion to peace and defence of the downtrodden, is a big blow, not only to the Christian community but also the entire nation and humanity.
“The PDP extols Asake for his exemplary lifestyle, teachings and piety, especially in the pursuit of peace and unity of our dear nation,” said the PDP
The party condoled with the Christian community, officials of the CAN, the government and people of Kaduna State as well as the Asake family for the loss.
It prayed to God to comfort the deceased’s family and his flock and give them the grace to bear “the huge loss”.
Saraki, in his condolence message, described late Asake as a “great Christian torchbearer whose work and influence will be of use to many generations.”
Saraki, in a statement by his special adviser on media and publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, said Asake’s passion, zeal and love for God and the plight of Christians in Nigeria marked him out as a worthy and true servant of God and humanity.
He commiserated with the immediate family of the deceased, the leadership of the CAN, the Christian community and the government and people of Kaduna State over the huge loss.
“Dr. Asake left no one in doubt where he stood on matters of faith and state during his lifetime,” said the senate president.
