The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution (PHED) Plc has collaborated with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to rebuild a pylon vandalised at Odukpani/Ikot Ekpene and Oku Iboku in Itu local government area of Akwa Ibom State.
The TCN Tower, T104 330KV was vandalised about two weeks ago by some unidentified vandals.
Since the tower was vandalised, PHED has been worse hit by the resultant power disruption that affected its customers.
Vandalisation of the tower has disrupted power supply and left the entire Calabar metropolis, the other parts of Cross River and Ebonyi states pitch-dark.
Consequently, PHED decided to support the efforts of TCN to ensure that power supply is restored to its affected customers.
Although TCN had awarded contract for the repair of the tower to a firm, PHED said it decided to pool resources to ensure a speedy completion of the work.
“We want to assure our customers that work has indeed commenced to erect a new tower and we are very hopeful of power restoration in the coming days ahead.
“We use this opportunity to appreciate our customers for their understanding and steadfastness in the midst of this challenge,” PHED said in a statement.
