The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has confirmed the identities of its officers caught in viral video receiving money from a Chinese national.
Spokesman for the Force, Mr Muyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement that the implicated officers had been identified and were undergoing disciplinary procedures.
Recall that the video of a Chinese man handing out cash gift to at least 25 Nigerian police officers surfaced on the social media platforms some days ago.
Although the exact location could not be ascertained, some key features such as container offices painted blue suggests a construction office or a warehouse.
The officers formed three horizontal lines while their Chinese benefactor moved around to hand out the cash to them.
The Chinese national held a bundle of N1,000 notes which he gave to the police men.
Adejobi condemned the conduct of the officers, describing their action as unprofessional and unethical.
He emphasised the commitment of the Force to upholding professionalism and maintaining public trust.
“The Nigeria Police Force has taken cognisance of a disturbing video making rounds in the media space, showing police officers receiving money from a Chinese national.
“The Force has strongly condemned the conduct exhibited by the police officers in the video, describing it as unprofessional and unethical.
“The actions of the officers do not represent the established ethics, standards, and core values of the Nigeria Police Force.
“The officers captured in the video have been identified and subjected to disciplinary proceedings,” he said.
He warned individuals and organisations making use of police services, particularly escorts and guards.
“The Nigeria Police Force hereby cautions individuals and organisations privileged to the services of police personnel, particularly as escorts and guards or other specialised services, to desist from any act capable of degrading the integrity of its officers and bringing the Force to disrepute,” he stated.
Adejobi called on citizens to support the ongoing reforms, affirming that the Force remains committed to transparent and professional service delivery.
“We remain resolute in our commitment to discipline and service in line with international best practices,” he said.
